Customers in the defense industry have specific requirements to ensure the protection of military personnel in hazardous environments. Shaw is well versed in all applicable Mil-Spec standards and manufacture the highest quality metal and molded plastic components for fuel systems. Fuel tanks are typically constructed of metals including steel, aluminum, and stainless steel or high performance polymers such as cross-linked polyethylene (XPLE) or nylon. Survivability features include self-healing ballistic protection via external coatings or internal bladders as well as fire and explosion protection systems. Additional common system features specific to military applications include extreme grade and slope fuel pickup, venting, and rollover protection as well as special considerations for tank distortion, fatigue, and wear.
